Well, there's a lot of minds on pistonheads, and my hope is that one of you will be able to help with this ridiculous query. Waterstones were no help.

More than a few years ago i was browsing in waterstones and picked up a book. I really enjoyed the first couple of pages and thought ill get that one day soon.

Now i don't remember what the book was called, or the author, or anything really. All i can do is describe the cover and give a very vague idea of the pages i read. I really hope one of you can help as it's been driving me nuts! I can't read another book until i've found this one.

So, the cover is a grey/green colour, and depicts a beautiful white american house upon a cliff top, looking over a turbulent sea. I believe there is a man standing near the house but this might be fabricated from some shadow of my mind.

I could be completely off the mark, but i seem to remember the story being about a man who is a father. But he's about to go through some bad times with his family/wife. It could possibly be about amnesia, or another life changing illness.

Think along the lines of Tony Parsons but much more literary and better in every way.

And i do believe it's by a contemporary author.

Please help!

I'm surprised Waterstones couldn't help you with such a succinct description.

This man on the cliff-top, did he have a sad face? Not very sad, probably more melancholy?

It's ok, I went to Waterstones head office and smashed a load of sausages into their foyer floor moan
