Topic title says it all really. Thanks to the wonders of Kindle Direct Publishing, my own debut novel is now 'out there'. Problem is that nobody knows its available, so it's time to get marketing. Question is though, what constitutes self-promotion? If I were to, for example, post a direct link to my novel on the Kindle store, does that contravene forum rules? Don't want to get in trouble so would appreciate some clarification.

I'm sure that Haymarket would be happy to help out by running (paid) ads for you as part of your marketing campaign - contact them directly for this. I'm in the same boat and started a thread discussing how I'd gone about it and the experiences of the first few weeks. It is currently slipping down the first page, unnoticed and unloved. If you're in the select programme, I wonder whether it would be appropriate to advertise any freebie campaigns coming up though?
On the upside, I did hit the in category bestseller list for a short while, so if I can help out, feel free to PM or post something here and I'll try and add my limited (and making it up as I go along) experience.

If you check out Goodreads you'll find some very good promotional resources there. It takes a while to get your head around the site, so if you need any help, just let me know
I got some valuable feedback from a guy who self published and was then picked up by Amazon's own 47North. He said that he gave away 80,000 eBooks, which in turn helped him sell 20,000. Then he got the call from 47North.

Andy, I'd be interested in some info on that. I've got a good reads profile with a giveaway ending soon for Hell's Garden, but it seems to have gone fairly slowly so far.
Having said that, I'm still in the top 100 overall Bestsellers on amazon at the moment so it's not going too bad (not sure for how much longer though), I'm #87 and falling, peak was #33 on Wednesday and again on Thursday.
