I have approx 1000 paperback books, mainly crime thriller type, and could really do with clearing some space. Anyone know of bulk book buyers or a good way to shift them? I did think of car booting them but the thought of dealing with people trying to barter me down by 10p put me off that idea.

"by" 10p? How much were you thinking of selling them for exactly?

If you don't want the hassle, drop them off at the charity shop.

Greenmetropolis.com

Though in my experience it doesn't work. Maybe my books are lousy.

I was thinking 50p a book or 5 for £2.

But I know I'd be bombarded with

Can I have 6 or

I'll give you 40p

I've just had a clear out of my bookshelves and thought some of them might be worth something. Looking on ebay and Amazon it soon became clear that the vast majority of them aren't worth anything. There's charities who sell them for 1p plus the postage (£1.20 or whatever) making it a complete waste of time trying to compete with them. I guess they make a bit on the postage and gives it them a profit if they shift enough of them.

The only stuff I've got which is worth selling is all hardback, car related or architecture/art/photography books. Everything else went to the tip. Sorry to be negative, it's the same story as video cassettes.

I used to sell loads on Amazon - it works quite well, but if they are popular you'll have to price them at 1p (as most are priced), Amazon add on £2.80 P&P and you will get about £1.41 per book - out of which you've got to buy an envelope and post the book - if they go large letter you can just about make a few pence on each but its quite a hassle for that.

Two things can make this work - if you think you'll sell more than 40 in a month you can pay a monthly flat fee and get more per book - but this only breaks even at more than 40 a month... the other thing is if the books are rare or difficult to get hold of. I sold lots of my old 60-70s Science Fiction and made some money but not enough to live off...

Give us a few examples of the books? You can look them up yourself on Amazon and see what they'll go for.

Thanks for the replies.

There are quite a few author collections. I think the car boot idea is winning so far.

I love dealing with knuckle draggers.

I'll list a few that may be of interest.

You will, and accept every offer. If you get rid at all you'll be doing well.

I am looking for a complete run of Autocar magazine from about 1973 thru about 1996. Anyone looking to unload all or parts of this run?

I think it's approx 1000 paperback books, mainly crime thriller type that the OP is selling, not Autocar mags.
