Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a Kindle for my mother (not tech savvy at all) and just wondered which you think I should go for?

I am swaying towards this one: Kindle Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display

...do you think it is worth stretching to the back lit version? Does it do anything else?

Thanks in advance! smile

the version with the backlight is much better and well worth the extra. i faced the exact same question last month and went for the paperwhite after thoroughly going over both.

not just better resolution, the backlight is handy, and the layout/ease of use is much, much better IMO.

I have the touch 3G and my wife has the older 3G with buttons, I'd go for the paperwhite if buying now. Backlighting is a game changer for bedtime reading.

If you mother wants to borrow eBooks from the library get her a Kobo Glo. Cheaper than the Kindle and not imprisoned into Amazon eco system.

I just don't think I can justify spending nearly double for the WhitePaper over the bog standard version...especially since the cheapest model has been reduced for 1 day only today! I think I will have to go with this as it is so cheap!

Nearly everyone over 40 must have a bed side lamp for reading anyway. Go for the cheapest one biggrin I have one and I can't fault it.

I went with the cheapest one and she seems to love it. As you say - she has a bed side lamp anyway smile
