Cam across these about 18 months ago and both mrs p and I have re-read all of them numerous times (pretty much the only books we agree on- like music
If you havnt read him but fancy a Scottish action/comedy/crime/sociology/thriller of a read then well worth buying. Really fresh, written very much with a scots tone and all the better for it. Some of the cultural references ae a bit subtle for a middle class bloke from Bournemouth but he does at least explain them or give you enough inf to look them up.
Much recommended

My gf (who is a big fan) bought me one of his a while back (All fun and games until someone loses an eye). I read about a third of it but admit I didn't really didn't enjoy it that much so gave up.
Worthwhile giving it another go?
No, that's the one I was talking about, I didn't care for it either. He has written better stuff, I prefer the ones set in Scotland, AFAGUSLAE was a bit fanciful for my liking, crappy ending too. Worthwhile giving it another go?

Funny character "brookmyre", Love his scottish venacular & sometimes he has more laughs over 3 pages than some books have in 350 pages. These gems can be hard to sustain & make his books a bit of an anticlimax at times. Still really like his stuff.
Colin Bateman (Norn Irish, venacular) seems to my mind a similiar writer, not as funny, but a more consistant writer, able to sustain his stories a bit better, to my mind. I try to get both writers books when they come out, so I'm only nitpicking.

By far and away the best Brookmyre novel is Boiling a Frog. See here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boiling-Frog-Christopher-B...
It's a wonderful deconstruction of those hypocritical Labour harpies and spin turds that the UK suffered after May 1997. Their greed and power hungry hubris is laid B[l]air as such.. along with the desperation of the Catholic Church heirachy in Scotland trying to remain relevent and controlling.
We need more of this kind of writer in this country who with one passage in a book, can comically embarrass those self-serving left wing New Labour oiks and MEPs of that time.
Are these types now consigned to history?
I doubt it considering Labour MP Margaret Moran has just been handed a judicial supervision order for thieving at least £53,000!
