I've a couple of hundred books (at a guess, could be up to 400) I want to get rid of, I pretty much use my Kindle these days for general fiction stuff.
Before anyone has a go about how sacred books are, these are basic chart paperbacks and the like, nothing worth worrying about smile

What do I do with them?

Car boot sale? 50p a go, i'd make £100ish and have to deal with all the crap that comes with doing one of those, hardly seems worth the effort.
Charity shop? I don't have any boxes to put them in, so i'll have buy a load of boxes just to be able to give them away.
Take them down the tip? Seems a shame, they are all perfectly readable, and i'd still need to transport them so will need boxes.
Ebay? One at a time? No bloody chance, but as a job lot, would people buy them like that? If I could cover the cost of boxing them up then maybe, but it's still a fair amount of effort to list them all.
Freecycle? Again, need to box them up still.

Not sure I have any other option, i'm going to have to buy boxes regardless aren't I.

Boxes seem to be the biggest issue here. Supermarkets will always have some unflattened boxes you can have for free smile

Get boxes for free from your local supermarket (ask if they aren't obvious).

We have a secondhand book stall at our local market where the trader will buy books from people (for not much). Might be worth investigating if you have anything similar locally.

Some supermarkets are putting boxes out to take shopping home in.
(this may have been mentioned already)

I took a couple of hundred over to those charity book banks Tesco have and dumped them all in when I moved last month. I am sure the Salvation Army will find someone who wants a bunch of old C and C++ manuals on top of all the copies of celebrity biographies that I am given for christmas each year.

No you won't. Just put them in plastic carrier bags and drop them off.

Freecycle, stipulate in the listing that winner has to bring their own boxes.

Get down to Aldi. they always have cardboard boxes out for people.
I wouldn't bother with selling books as a lot on fleabay. I did it, and none of the lots made more than £2. I made more from carbooting other books!

Looking on ebay, I can see a fair few book collections on there, not one of which has got a single bid! smile That option is out the window.

Charity shop or local second hand book place is the next option, I'll check the local Tesco to see if I can drop them off there too.

I'm not sure they will be that interested in 40 Star Wars books etc... but i'll have a look. Last I heard, charity shops weren't that interested in paperbacks either, as they can't sell them anymore. frown

Exactly right, and if you phone them up they'll more than likely come and collect them.

I'm sure a local second hand bookshop or charity shop would collect them from you if you were giving them away, worth a few phone calls surely?

There is a book share shop just opened in Newport Pagnell next to our shop if any use, they may even collect. I can find out if you like.

Just the name will be good enough, i'm too idle to actually do anything at the moment, so it might be a while before I sort them all out smile
