I would also recommend Jack Noble by L.T. Ryan. Pretty new to the scene, only 2 or 3 books at present, but I enjoyed them. Currently free (kindle download) on amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/Noble-Intentions-Season-Ep...Roy Grace - all read
Jack Reacher - all read
Elvis Cole - all read

I watched the film and enjoyed it as a standalone piece, but for me this was just a guy called Jack Reacher, not the character from the novels.
I thought it was a very poor adaptation of the book cut out so much missed so many key characters and storyline , last but not least Tom Cruise made a very poor JR it should have been Liam Neeson no question a perfect fit. TheJimi said:

Many of Christopher Brookmyre's books have recurring characters and elements of the thriller/shoot-em-up genre. Very funny as well, although you might need the ear for a Scottish accent with some of them. And there's anothe Scottish author, Craig Russell, who's written three or four novels in the 'Lennox' series about a private detective based in 1950s Glasgow.
