2 month motorhome hire

So thinking of renting prior to owning for say April and may for France Spain/portugal and need some ideas where’s the best place for hiring and cost.

So two double beds, preferably automatic both late 50’s and don’t mind a EU pickup?

I’d be interested to know what you find, I looked at renting one for a week and even that was eye wateringly expensive.

Just buy one and sell it afterwards, we did this instead of renting one, trouble was we liked it so much we still have it (10 years on) and they really hold their value.

It will cost a LOT of money to hire one for two months, motorhomes suffer very little depreciation, certainly compared to cars,

If you decide to buy one, check very carefully for damp, and check again.

All I'd say, in the short term the loss may be quite a bit if you buy from a dealer, from what I've been told and seen, dealers have £6/7,000 or more margin in used ones and at least 2-3 times that in new ones. So you would loose that immediately when trade it back in, obviously less of a hit if you sold privately. Over the long term, yes depreciation is minimal though.

Rental rates seem to be approx £100 per day. So that's going to be ballpark £6000 for 2 months.

I reckon you'd spend less buying a used van privately and then selling it afterwards.

They’ll likely do a deal for a two month rental but I’d be surprised if it was more than 10%. Buying and selling is probably the way to go as you say. Bit of a pain admin wise mind.

Not convinced there would be much discount at that time of year as they should have plenty of demand from other people, perhaps you'd have more luck on a good deal for a winter rental?

If renting is the only option, then I suspect that the best price will be renting via a company on the continent (plus you get a LHD van).

I'm not convinced buying and selling would be worth the saving/hassle. Unless you are buying high end and something the dealer will want back it can take a long time to sell plus buying the more expensive end people will prefer a dealer. Many sell through the motorhome online service (motorhome marketplace I think I bought from) and the cost to do that is crazy, as in thousands. As example, we viewed and bought a 25k motorhome from them, got got 2k off and I saw the invoice to vendor was around 3k, so they lost 5k total on their advert price (which wasn't far off price of others).

Buying now and selling in june might help but market will pick up late March.
