I've got a VW Caddy I'm building into a very simple camper and have very little DIY or mechanical skills

So far I've bought insulation, sound deadening, 4 way stretch carpet and some blinds tailored to the rear windows, I've got the sound deadening stuck down and I'm about to start the insulation process

Plans for this weekend are to get some ply cut to size for the flooring and bung some of the insulation in and hopefully make a start planning on the electrics I'll need, hoping to do a small leisure battery with a split charger to power a few lights and a usb socket for phone charging

Please show me your builds and share any horror stories I might need to look out for

Thanks in advance

I did a Relay a number of years ago, still going (well actually the engine is broken right now) mostly still as it was, did eventually lower the bed a bit. Feel free to ask questions:

Amazing mate thank you, I've bookmarked the thread to read through tonight

One thing everyone seems to disagree on is the use of a vapour barrier, at the moment I'm leaning towards not bothering, apparently if you can't guarantee a 100% tight seal its better not to and just let the van breathe

Look for threads from some of the others, Tampon was one that I remember I cant remember the posters for the others but there are plenty of VW ones on here that are pretty well detailed. I did vapour barrier got a pretty good seal

I’ve got a 2008 VW Caddy that I’m slowing bringing back to life with the intention of making it into a micro/small camper (it’s the SWB). There are a number of really useful Facebook groups specifically around the caddy and self build electrics.

Good luck!

Don’t use rockwool, Dodo Mat/Silent Coat/Dyna Mat are the usual products and use Trim-Fix heat proof adhesive.

My T6.1 is insulated and sound proofed all the way front to back, floor/roof/doors/bonnet and under the wheel arches, it’s a huge improvement and well worth doing properly.
