First off - if anyone knows details about this incident please don’t mention it on this thread.

Basically my parents have their MH and caravan at a storage compound. They were due to go away in the mh yesterday when they got a call - there had been a massive fire that’s destroyed a lot of caravans, motor homes and other vehicles.Their caravan is ok but their motorhome back end is a bit of a mess.

Basically the mouldings up the sides , across the back etc are mullered (the one on the right looks distorted), also the window at the side is distorted and can’t be closed.

I assume that the “sandwich” insulation under the skin may be damaged too.

Anyone have any experience of this sort of damage? I’ve a suspicion that the panels will no longer be available but if they are it’ll take months to source them (a light cluster takes 12 weeks). It’s H—-y 65GE, 2013 model.

They’ll be claiming from the insurer of the van that started the fire. Can they claim rental of a Mh for upcoming trips - they’ve sites booked already and for reasons I won’t go into here it’s important for my mum to get my dad out and about.

Also I’m hoping that this is something the insurance will take care of from start to finish - I don’t think my parents should have to deal with this (my dad gets very very anxious and stressed. This is going to make him ill).

Any pointers on how to deal with this and stuff to look out for. I’m a bit concerned that insurers may write it off especially if the parts are out of production - in that case they’d be offered a derisory sum and basically lose their motorhome and not be able to get another.

Sorry that I can't help with the specifics of the required repairs, but from an insurance point of view, unless there was any proven negligence in the setting of the original fire, it is likely to be the case that your parents will need to claim on their own insurance.

That seemed to be the case with the recent Luton Airport car park fire.

Terrible for Mum & Dad, i do feel for them.
There is a motorhome company on Canvey Island that specialises in panels, might be worth a try.
Williams Motorhomes.

I had a claim for a motorhome and the insurance company were easy to deal with and did not offer a derisory amount, in fact a very good deal.

Values rocketed post covid.

It was broken into, some interior bits stolen and some damage done, minor though, the insurance company tried to find the parts needed, failed, so wanted to write it off.
In the end they did not put a marker on it, paid out over half the price paid for it, I got the damage repaired, it was only replacing some chipboard panels and cushions, a TV, and door lock, and left the little marks on the floor and sink, advertised it, for the same price paid, and the trade were all over it. Sold within hours, with disclosure of the reason.

I think you will find your own insurance company to be very helpful, looking for parts availability for you, and coming to an agreeable value should they write it off. I doubt you will have much luck with the third party, but I would let your own insurance deal with that and get things underway as quickly as possible.

The lights will be from a car and probably readily available if you identify them, Insulation may well not be damaged, but is only insulation, the panels and window maybe stock items by the building company, never going to know until you ask them. I doubt it was a one off build and other must get damaged.

Could have been far worse, the van still looks usable, if a little cosmetically challenged, no need to panic until you contact the right people. Which your insurance company should handle for you.

Might be worth sending the pictures to https://www.motorhomerepairs.co.uk/services and asking them if it looks repairable.

I run a dealership , Hobby parts are absolute nightmare there's no chance you'll be able to source those panels, same as those Premium line vans were gorgeous but that will defo be written off

Hi - I can see your details on your profile. Would you mind if I gave you a call tomorrow and pinch a couple of minutes of your time?
