Evening all

We where planning to hire a van for a trip away this year, however the costs have really rocketed since I last looked so I’m considering buying one and was looking on EBay..

Is it just full of scam adverts? It seems I can get a 13 year old van with good miles for about £10k, and there are many listed. Appears too good to be true (which often means it is) and much cheaper than 12 mths ago!

I suspect many people bought them in lock down and now want to sell them as mortgages and energy have gone up and they have returned to work.

Not really in the ballpark of someone looking at 10k motorhomes though

He is a great bloke and would gladly impart some wisdom. He is well connected too.

The OP prompted me to have a look on eBay.
Searched ‘motorhome’ and a lot came up looking cheap, they are all being sold by the same seller (caprijps) who is listed as a private seller and also has a lot of cheap cars etc for sale.

If you suspect a scam, one way to check is to look at "other items for sale". The scams will often have many unrelated items for sale, cars, bikes, motorhomes etc all pictured in different locations.

They are scams , yiu can't buy a van ofnthat age for £10k
Market is actually still really strong, I run a dealership and we have just had the most mentally busy easter weekend ever which is weird as Bank Holidays are normally tumbleweed particularly when the sun shines.
There are some diamonds out there but beware scams, damp and rusty chassis , bit keep searching and there are Good ones.
We just took in a lovely 2001 Elddis coachbuilt , too old.to retail so will be traded tho one of the staff is picking it off, no damp , no rust so they do exist!
One of them realistically fetches £12995 ish private or with a trader

I'm on several motorhome Facebook pages, and people are regularly posting about scams - sometimes because they've been a victim. It seems like the best advice is not to part with any money until you've actually laid eyes on it in real life.

Then you can start worrying about damp and rust.

Make absolutely sure that neither of the names "Sturgeon" or "Murrell" are present on the V5.
