Hello

With winter approaching I am looking for tips on how to keep out motorhome clean (especially the roof). I’ve seen fenwicks has an over winter coat but is there anything else to consider?

Thanks

I just go over mine with hot soapy water about once every two months before any green mould starts to set in. You don't need to buy any fancy stuff. Fenwicks is OK for the bodywork used carefully.

I use some tall sturdy stepladders and a long string mop to get to the hard to reach places.

Always best to do the roof straight after a heavy downpour so the dirt is easier to get off.

We do much the same as Wacky, with a telescopic brush cleaner thingy that’s quite effective.

Don’t be tempted to get a cover if you value your paintwork smile

Yes for me, common or garden car shampoo; warm water; and an extendable brush. Depending how fastidious you are and how gunked up they get, you can also do the panel seams and edges with an old toothbrush dipped in the warm water/shampoo mix.

use a telescopic ladder for getting up to do the roof but put an old towel under the ladder edge where it rests against the MH

If you can avoid parking too near trees that will help on the green algae front. Keep an eye on Aldi as well in case they do their camping specials as their black streak remover is good stuff.

Caravanners seem to recommend Wet & Forget for the roof. Stops the green stuff from growing.

It’s no longer recommended by the manufacturers for caravans and motorhomes I believe. It bu**ers up the decals if it gets on them. Friends of ours had to have their motorhome ‘re-decalled’ at a significant price last year after using the stuff.

A timely warning!

Aside from the fact I would be perfectly happy if all mobile homes and caravans rotted away.......

I think that the solution would be a proper ceramic coat with a hydrophobic layer, it will make it much easier to clean, a pressure wash every now and then should sort it.

OP: Pressure washing is not recommended tbh unless you are extremely careful around the panel joints. Better to use a garden hose sprinkler with enough oomph to wash away any suds from cleaning.

Yes, Never ever let a pressure wash anywhere near a motorhome or caravan, the sealant is very delicate and could/will cause damp problems in the future.

A very light spray with a hosepipe is fine.

Wait until spring. When the local scouts turn up for "bob a job" give them the cleaning gear and let them get on with it.
Pop out after 10 minutes and generously offer them lots of red bull and donuts. They will soon have it sparkly clean. biggrin
