We’ve hired a camper for a few days (with a view to possibly buying one) any recommendations for quiet coastal, dog friendly sites in west wales?
Thanks

It's been a while since we toured Wales so I'm not the best person to offer advice specific to Wales.

Until someone else offers better info, I'm assuming you're new to campervanning. Sites are usually dog-friendly by default, the exceptions being those sites operating as a sideline to a farm with animals or sites that get busy with children in high season.

Websites like ukcampsite are useful for locating campsites, reviews and details of dog-friendliness.

In the absence of other advice, just go and wherever you end up will be an adventure.

Whereabouts is your 'definition' of West Wales? It's not a definition I've heard before, it tends to be North, South or Mid really?!

The bit on the West, underneath the North, above the South, and left of the mid, sort of Pembrokeshire way.

West Wales always refers to Pembrokeshire.

South West Wales would be Swansea/Llanelli.

St David's is a lovely location and the Caravan and Motorhome site at Freshwater East is almost on the beach and close to Tenby.

Heading down that way tomorrow. 3 nights at Carn Springs near Tenby and 3 nights at Foxdale near Marloes beach.

Not stayed at either before but booked them through pitchup.com and the reviews look ok.

I live in Carmarthenshire which is definitely west Wales.

NB No capital letter on west (or indeed south or north or southwest) wink

I've been to Caerfai farm many times, just on the outskirts of St David's. Lovely views from the top fields although a bit exposed. I've seen vans in the past, no idea what they're doing at the moment though.

Parts of Sir Gâr are West Wales, but Llanelli certainly isn't. I widely understood everything west of the river Towy to be West Wales.

Compass points are capitalised when they are used to identify a region that is established through popular use.

Try pitchup.com too. It's probably NW Wales, but there's some really stunning, small beach-side campsites on the Llyn Peninsula (I'm stopping at Porth Iago this weekend).

The internet is awash with contradictory evidence. These point to Llanelli being in west Wales:

http://www.thewalesmap.com/llanelli.htm

But I have no doubt that other sites will narrow that down to south west Wales. thumbup

I live between Carmarthen and Llandeilo which is definitely regarded here as being in west Wales. smile

A subject of some debate it appears.

The BBC uses the small letter...

https://www.south-wales.org/2008/what-difference-d...

Yet map contradict themselves here...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/learningenglish/2011/1...

Anyway, irrelevant for this thread. Each to their own I guess. smile
