Need a bit of help.

Trying to convince the wife that we need a motorhome in our lives. She’s not adverse to the idea but I need to push her over the line so I need a few things to go in my favour.

I’ve found a hire firm that will rent us the exact model of motorhome I’m thinking of getting so that one is sorted.

She’s always wanted to go to Cornwall and I’m clueless of the area so I need a campsite that is very near a beach, has a few amenities (covid permitting), walking distance to a decent pub/restaurant and good walks in general would be good. Cost is not really a problem (remember, I’m trying to sell this to her) so ‘luxury’ options would be good - I’ll get her back to her normal council expectations once bought smile

She loves Doc Martin so within a reasonable driving distance of Port Issac would be a bonus.

Over to you!

Not on the north coast but look at Pentewan Sands. Walks on the beach and maybe up on the headland(?)

Bus outside site to Mevagissey and Heligan Gardens. 3 or 4 places to eat on site and a pub in the village.

Pentewan is great. Relatives of mine have stored their touring caravan there for years and have a pitch on the beach front the same 4 weeks every year (outside holiday season). Will be very busy though in August, it was rammed when we went a couple of August's ago. Lots of very nice facilities on the site (not sure what is open with COVID though)

Trewan Hall at Columb St Major. We came across someone who had been going there every year since it opened in 1965 this year!

Lovely spacious site, clean facilities, and a shop.

We've spent our last two summer holidays at Trewan Hall (but aren't going this year as we feel Cornwall will be too busy).

It's not near a pub or beach but it's charm is that it's old fashioned.
We'll be going back when / if things get back to a more normal state in the future.

We hired a motorhome a few years ago. Ended up doing more Devon than Cornwall, but wrote about it here. You might find something useful

Spotted a overnight site in Tintagel high street £8 24hrs. No facility's but a nice grass field in the middle of town.

Thanks alock, good write up there.

Funnily enough we’re hiring from the same firm! We’re only going for a few nights so will be one base only.

Just had the van hire confirmed and I’m weirdly over excited by all this!

Honestly, it’s like a zoo down there this year. The experience might well put her off the idea!

Please, no more bloody massive Motorhomes down here, they are a pigging nuisance to locals who are just trying to get about their normal everyday business.
Our lanes are not designed for them, and I get sick of having to reverse back 3 miles every 5 minutes.
Took 2 hours to get home from Newquay to St Austell the other day, crazy.
Sorry.....

The good news is that Pentewan Sands is on a bus route road so no small lanes involved.

Now when was that PH motorhome meet at your gaff?...

hehe

Ayr St Ives https://www.ayrholidaypark.co.uk/ but I do hear the town is rammed which prob isn’t a good idea right at the moment...

This is a very nice site and open all year.

We came back from there last weekend after 2 weeks, first week before most schools broke up, 2nd week after they broke up. The site was busier the second week obviously. I wouldn’t have said Cornwall was particularly busy, beaches were probably busier but we didn’t go down until late afternoon. Newquay seemed less busy traffic wise, was fairly easy driving through it. Perranporth was very busy when we drove though it with lots of people in the centre. We didn’t stop! Found a nice pub in St Maybn for lunch one day but we’re easily able to social distance outside.

Potentially just have to make adjustments for the current situation

We have stayed at Dennis cove site in Padstow. Good for cycling as its on the camel trail and fairly central to travel around cornwall. Pitch 13, first one on the right up the hill. Great views from there as well.

Beacon Farm Campsite in St Agnes is lovely and there's Blue Hills between Aggie and Perranporth. Mind you, the approach is pretty narrow so you might want to check a map as opposed to trusting a satnav or phone?

As you can imagine, with staycations being all the rage it's pretty busy down here at the moment. In the height of lockdown I could get to work in 20+ minutes if I nailed it down the A30. Yesterday took 90+ minutes. frown

I can't blame folk for wanting to come down here but with only one hospital you get understand locals getting a bit antsy.
