We are planning to buy a converted van > campervan. have an eye on a citroen relay thats been very well fitted out. Anyone else bought one recently?? What did you get and why.

Then for a laugh, I looked at DFDS prices. Put in van and it came back 115 pounds 1 way, then same day, time etc and put in motorhome and it was 75 pounds!!!

yup. Fortunately ferry companies don't use HMRC classifications. For instance my transit 5 seater crew cab is classed as a car.

I have just been through this. Hull/Rotterdam return was £900 in a Citroen van to collect furniture. Leaving the van type and size the same, I altered it to read 'minibus' and it came out at less than £600.

I called them, thinking it must be an error and they said that the commercial costings keep ferry prices down for holidaymakers, and the cost is generally passed onto the end user of the goods in the van. They told me not to lie; if I turned up at the port and there were no windows rearwards of the driver, I would pay full fare - at that day's rate. They were very nice and helpful, but I just had to suck it up.

Tunnel, using my 'frequent traveller' account works out to be £58 each way off peak.

Have to buy 10 trips in advance and use them over a year, but well worth it for us in our Motorhome.
