Hi, weird one here. Considering a Mondeo as a tow car for a light caravan (~1000kg) and the 1.5TDCi was at the top of my list. Thing is everywhere I look, the 1.5 diesels only have a towing limit of 400kg with the rest of the range at 1800kg. Could this be a misprint by Ford and copied across the whole internet or is there genuinely a reason for the low capacity?

Thanks

Does seem a bit odd but then again even towing something lighter I doubt I'd want to go below 2L (diesel) though for a tow car. Can't imagine it would be much fun anywhere remotely hilly or for getting up to speed to join a motorway.

Our Eriba is 850 kg
It tows perfectly fine behind a 1.6 TDCI focus (109hp)

Not a caravan but I tow our Conway Cruiser folding camper with our Dacia Logan MCV, it has a 90bhp, 900cc turbo engine and tows quite well. I have to change down to 4th on steep climbs especially over the top of the M62.

FIL towed a 4.75m Lunar Clubman around Europe a few times and all over the UK for years in a 1996 P reg 1.8 diesel. It had no go with out he caravan so god knows what it was like with it.

Thanks for the replies.
For the record, the Mondeo is out of contention. The chassis plate confirms that it will only tow 400kg (which tallies with the rest of the internet).
I'm sure it could physically do it as per the rest of the range but apparently it's something to do with the engine being an eco unit....
Now looking at Quashqai or Duster (c.1500kg tow limit)
