Leisure batteries issue:/
Discussion
Hi.
I've had an issue with my batteries this spring.
I have two 110 leisure bats charged by 2 100 w solar panels.
All was well all summer when being used as a camper but when we got back I noticed a real bad odour. After much searching, I found a acid spilled out of the batteries and all over the floor. A major clean up ensued. Now, all put back together and I still seem to get a bad gassing off the batteries..
My question is ..... Does anyone else get problems with the batteries gassing fumes when being charged? They are under the passenger seat btw.
Cheers.

If the acid came out of the battery when charging I suggest your charger/charge controller is overcharging the batteries, causing therm to boil.
I have to agree, try checking the voltage when the day is brightest, you should see no more than 14v.I take it you are using an intelligent charger and they are not just connected to the solar cells direct?
Don't forget to make sure that there is decent ventilation as the fumes from battery charging are both poisonous and explosive in high concentrations.
Some helpful advice below.
