Caravan Clipped Whilst In Storage...
Discussion
Got a call from the manager of the place where we store our 'van yesterday. Apparently the 'van next to it has managed to clip it on the way out damaging the awning rail and putting a scrape on the bodywork. I've sent 'er indoors over this morning to assess / take photos. The manager of the storage place guesstimated about £500 damage.
The chap who hit it has essentially admitted liability but because he was towing it at the time if an insurance claim were to be made it would have to be against his car insurance rather than 'van insurance and he wants to avoid this as the excess + loss of NCB / increase in premiums would likely cost more than my repair. I've sort of left it that I'd get some quotes and let him know but did also inform my caravan insurers in case I needed them to pursue a claim for me.
Not sure where to go from here, part of me wants to avoid the hassle of getting it sorted and get the insurance to deal with it but then I'm sure this would cost the chap who has hit ours a lot more than just sorting something privately.
Any advice? Hand it over to my insurers or sort it out myself, with him footing the bill obviously?

Pretty convinced to let the insurance deal with it now. The wife has been up there this morning, he must of connected with my caravan when swinging out and sufficiently so to move it round several inches despite the steadies being down etc. So yeah there is a possibility of further hidden damage. If it's repaired under the insurance then I have comeback if there are in further issues down the line. How he wants to pay for it is between him and my insurers. Perhaps he'll be a bit more careful in future & luckily the storage site have moved him to another pitch away from me!
