Son's borrowing our motorhome for 2 weeks in August to take him and d.i.l. & kids (13 &11) to the Vendee. Wants a site close (ish) to the beach and a nearby town/village they can cycle to. MUST have good pool, ideally with big slides/aquapark and lots to do.

Last time we went to the Vendee was 20 years ago so it's probably changed a bit.

Any suggestions will be v. welcome 'cos it'll be my fault if it's rubbish.

It's a little further down the coast, but we stayed next door to this site on Ile d'Oleron and it looked superb from what we could see.

We’re on the Il de Re on the final leg of our month away. It is a wonderful place to be.

Any Il de re pointers on really nice sea side campsites or aires would be great as we are hoping to spend a couple of days there in September on the way to Dordogne?

Ideally not the super busy sort with kids clubs etc, just in a nice location near to water with a bit of space please!

Ile de Re is lovely, and that Interlude site is one of the nicest I know anywhere (or was a few years ago.) It's a bit farther from the interesting towns in the north coast but the beach is pretty much perfect.

There are loads and nowhere is particularly busy in September. If you want an Aire then there's one at the far end in la Patache near a bar and a pier to jump off which is pretty much perfect.

The municipal site in St Martin is great but the beaches nearby aren't.

Tour les prises in La Couarde which is right in the middle of the island.
We’ve been 4 times in the last 15 years, very quiet, relaxing away from traffic.

You’re only ever about 1km from the sea!

Thanks for letting me know Bill, much appreciated you never really know until youv'e been. I've been to Ile de Re before, staying at the Eurocamp in Loix and found it almost perfect as a holiday destination for us as a Family, we always said we try and go to different places each year in France but we just couldn't resist a return for our last week of the break.

This place is amazing but gets booked up quick i believe. We went 2 years running with Eurocamp. Rare for us to go to the same place twice which says a lot.

Also....places to visit

Les Sables d'Olonne
Saint Jean De Mont - touristy but some nice restaurants and hiring the 4 wheeled bikes is a good laugh with kids!
St Giles Croix-de-Vie

I absolutely love this area, but the only thing is you can't 100% guarantee the weather so we tend to head further south now.

Thanks all, son has sorted out a site on a big site but he's not said which one. Quite like the looks of Ile de re, might give that a go ourselves in Sept.
