Caravan covers

Noticed more and more vans parked in driveways for the winter all wrapped up in covers. Is this a good idea? Doesn't the cover trap moisture in the van and ruin the ventilation and promote mould? And what about flapping about in the wind doesn't that scratch and damage the van?

Any pointers or experiences please chaps. And chapesses of course

I've just had a Protec cover made for my motorhome.

I can't comment just yet on how it performs as I haven't taken it off since fitting it. It's secured underneath the bodywork with rather a lot of straps to stop it rubbing against the paint and it fits really well. Far better than a 'one size fits all cover' in my view.

It has a clear panel on the top for my solar charging system and a Velcro-sealed cutout for the habitation door. Plus the rear section uses Velcro down the sides for easy fitment and removal.

I would never cover mine for the issues you've mentioned

Trapping moisture under the cover would certainly be my main concern

Can't you have a roof cover made if you leave it parked in a tree/bird lime area? We do this for boats all the time.

A pro tec cover here as well , the fabric is breathable so no condensation problem ,wash and polish before covering and the caravan or motor home will keep in top condition .One tip I learned from using a travel cover is to use cling film to protect the acrylic Windows

Guy down the road had a cover custom-made from something breathable and was always adamant that it genuinely didn't trap moisture. However, since last Autumn he has stopped using it. He says that, even though it was a snug-fit and was pulled down with straps, it still flapped a little in the wind leading to the caravan's windows misting slightly. He managed to buff them "clear" again but it put him off the cover.
