Can anyone recommend a nice site around the Italian Lakes, suitable for two mature chaps on motorbikes and staying in tents. We would like somewhere close to a nice town with good restaurants. Thanks in advance

Just come back from Lake Garda. Rented apartment so no camping. Riva del Garda is a nice town at the top of the lake with plenty of restaraunts. Has a campsite next to the town but don't know the name.

Camping San Fransisco down the bottom end of the lake : http://www.campingsanfrancesco.com
Bella Italia is nice too although a little expensive, but an easy walk into town.
Camping Sirmione is a bit more central and an nice walk to Sirmione at the end of the peninsula http://www.camping-sirmione.it

TBH there is no shortage of camping around the Italian Lakes, depends if you like somewhere quieter (try Lake Iseo or Idro)

We did week at this place on Garda in July this year...

http://www.campingduparc.com/en/

BIG site with 2 eating places inside it. Beach access for swimming (pebbly). Great facilities with toilet paper too smile. Good shop on site (very cheap too) but only 5km from a big supermarket. Stones throw into Lazise which is very nice and has a big market on a Weds.

...followed by another week at this place on Iseo...

Smaller site with good facilities (no bog roll!). 5/10 min walk into Iseo Town. Beach access again for swimming etc (pebbly again). A nice quiet site/week.

Next door (50m down the road) is Camping Iseo...

which looked even nicer than ours so we will probably try this out if we go there another time.

Both sites had loads of Dutch folk on their holidays there. Nice friendly people...if not a bit loud hehe

We would stay at both again tbh. The evening entertainment at Garda wasn't for us and went on until 11.30 one night. The coffee bar at the Iseo site opened at 7.00am so get a pitch away from that for a lie in smile

Cheers smile
