Anyone any good with Truma water heaters?
Discussion
Hi all,
We are trying to get the water heater fixed on my parents van as we are going away this week.
The heater is a Truma Ultrastore Rapid and the water does actually get hot, initially. When left for a while the water seems to syphon back through the overflow on the tank which then drains itself. I assume this causes the element to over heat so it cuts out until you reset the power on the van.
A new tap and anti syphon device were both fitted on Saturday but its still cutting out.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You say it had a new tap and anti syphon device fitted, is it still ditching water after these? Or is it only cutting out? If its cutting out / red light on the dial after a short while then its getting too hot / tank has expanded from freezing. We are trying to get the water heater fixed on my parents van as we are going away this week.

Is it ditching water from the red outlet hose on the boiler its self?
Thanks guys I'll check tomorrow. Its still losing water after the new tap and anti syphon. I'm looking tomorrow as its my Dads van and he has done all the work so far so I'll try and do some troubleshooting too.
I'm sure last time I used it we were getting the red light on the dial all the time so I'll check this again.

Checked the drain and it seemed fine. As soon as the tank is primed and heated it starts to come out of the overflow which has already been changed for new.
Spoke to an engineer at Truma and they have diagnosed a faulty element, I guess this has an integrated thermostat which is what we wondered about initially.
Part is being collected tomorrow so we'll see.

I don't think, relatively speaking, the water heaters use THAT much gas. I could be wrong, however, since I'm still fact-finding with mine.
But we have Gas-it fitted and, not knowing how much gas I'd used over a weekend away, I topped up with LPG at the local filling station and (very embarassingly) only managed to squeeze in 2litres (against a minimum 5litre uplift!).
I'm going to try again tomorrow since we've spent a weekend offgrid since, plus another with some heating and a week of the fridge being left on gas. So we'll see what the situation is tomorrow and I'll let you know. But I've so far been surprised at how little we use.

My Dad spoke to this chap today and he was brilliant so thanks again for the contact, he is highly recommended. He mentioned how troublesome the overflow elbows are (hot pipe) and that they are only really used for aiding draining the tank - this has now been swapped for a cold elbow without the overflow along with a cold water feed non return valve. Last night the tank drained but not onto the floor so the cold feed valve we suspect is the issue and letting water drain back into the aqua-roll overnight. Not sure if we'll know we've fixed it before we use the van but the whole water system has had an overhaul now which, after 11 years, it probably needed anyway!
All the bits and pieces have arrived for our first time using a super-pitch too. Here's hoping the weather holds!
