For years we have been fixated with buying a winter home in Spain but is a large and luxurious 'van a good alternative?

Who spends winters in Spain or Portugal?
What are the sites like (we are not fond of noisy children)

In 1992-1994 we spent 2 years in a caravan, spent one winter in spain & Portugal, one winter in greece.
Most of the time weather was warm enough for t shirts, loads of camp sites open, many at much reduced fees. Totally uncrowded, very few children.
One site in Granada, site owner gave us the key to the gates!
It was superb!

is it family oriented (lots of kids)? We don't have children, rather two dogs so that may affect our choice.
