Also toying with this idea (mainly because of the slideouts) ! I am not sure about the UK but on the continent the entire gas and electrical standard has to be modified to comply with EU norms. Also the weight distribution question seems to be a problem for some.

Seems the body length has to be less than 23 feet to tow with a normal car or 4x4 a lot on sale are greater!!! most seem to have modified electrical and gas system , they seem much better quality and specification than UK with air con and cooker hoods and built in awnings standard , more room solid wood cabinets . holding tanks for toilet rather than a cassette, not sure how practical this would be?? I sell Motorhomes and the odd R.v, recently got offered a 5th wheel in px, not a huge one but I couldn't find a trade buyer for it in the country.
Buy used as depreciation is big, build quality can be poor despite the feel of solidity and it's important that all systems have been properly converted to 230v.
Most are too big for any proper touring in the UK and black water/sewage tanks can be a pain as sites don't have the dump points or if they do you'll have to maneuver a big trailer to it.
Bar that they do give you more space and kit than UK stuff and they can be good value, I know there are smaller yanks too which may negate some of the above negatives.
