Hi all,

We are going to the Lake District in a motorhome we are hiring over new years.

We will have a 9 month old with us and a dog.

We are after some nice sites with short walks to small villages, towns etc but to feel a bit secluded when we lock up at night, so possibly sites with a good amount of space between pitches, in the woods etc.

We are happy to visit a few sites the week we are driving about so any suggestions are welcome.

Dave!

The Camping & Caravanning club site at Keswick is lovely; right on the shore of Derwent Water, but only a few minutes stroll into Keswick. It has good size pitches, superb showers etc. We went in August, and will definitely be going back next year.

I'd agree the CCC site at Keswick is great, but I think it's shut over winter,

I think the CCC site at Ravenglass stays open.

My favourite site in the Lake District is The Quiet Site up the hill from Pooley Bridge, overlooking Ullswater.

I've been going there for years and most recently with my small daughter (nearly 2yrs old). The site itself is very well kept, beautiful views over Ullswater, family bathroom, lovely hot water and clean washing facilities and a lovely warm barn with local beers and open fire.

Only issue is that it's very secluded - closest restaurant/bar is about a mile's walk away and Pooley Bridge is a 5-10mins drive away. You can do some lovely walks from the site though - Aire Force waterfall being one of those.

That looks amazing - thanks for sharing! One to try when I can.

Keswick C&CC is open over xmas and new year. We are booked in for the new year. I think it closes 4th Jan 2015 for a few weeks though.

Great Langdale NT site would be my choice. 3 great pubs within walking distance. The lovely town of Ambleside is close by.
