Spa - Best campsite?
Discussion
Hi all,
As a regular Le Mans attendees, next year we're going to try Spa for the Blancpain 24 hour, for the first time.
I've only been to Spa once and stayed at a hotel so have very little/zero knowledge of campsites at the track and in the surrounding areas.
At Le Mans, we have camped away from the circuit for the quiet element but it means driving all the time which is a pain. We've also camped at the track so we can cycle around and have beers. We normally camp at Mulsanne as it's a great corner, there's a supermarket a 5 minute walk away, a big screen to see all the action elsewhere on the track and the atmosphere is generally good.
What we're ideally looking for is a campsite at/in Spa so we're close to the action but we also need a supermarket not too far away and preferably we don't want somewhere where there's German House music blasting out all night!
Can anyone recommend a decent campsite that's well within a cycle ride, is secure and not likely to be occupied with idiots?
Thanks,
Rich

Ardennes Camping LâEau Rouge, Stavelot Belgium
I stayed at the above for the F1 a few years ago.
Don't know if it's the best cos I've only been the once.
About 2 mile walk/ride to the circuit, (Along the old circuit) small supermarket about a mile away and Stavalot village.
Proper campsite, not a temporary set up, so toilets, showers and a bar.

fyi
No issue for a week or two but makes 1 night very expensive
Eau Rouge looks nice though so thanks for that: I have just emailed them

Stayed at Camping Spa D'or for the F1 it a bit of a drive but easy and parking is simple at Spa. Really good facilities and the have mobile homes and chalets to rent for a bit more comfort.
I was not impressed with any of the on track camping it's all tempory showers, wc's the lot
Coincidentally and fyi I am just looking to book a night here en route to Italy next summer and on top of the €30 pitch fee they want another €17.50 as a booking fee I was not impressed with any of the on track camping it's all tempory showers, wc's the lot

Just turn up, it's a big site, I'm sure they would have space. No issue for a week or two but makes 1 night very expensive

We (the mrs and me) have hired a motorhome for the Spa F1 next year, but we really cant make our minds up where to stay, the circuit sounds good fun and location, but with crap facilities, or the eau rouge campsite with a bit of luxury but a walk to the track. Is it a good idea to take our bikes?, is it ok to get around the circuit with general admission with them? and whats the likelihood of them getting cut off the back of the van.
I'm a bit of a camping newbie and only hired a motorhome for the first time last year and did all of goodwood which was superb.

In my experience of Le Mans, having a bike makes all the difference in the world.
Having been to Spa once before, I highly recommend taking one - everyone in my group is taking theirs. There's a track running around the cicuit which you can walk in a few hours but bikes would be better.
Also with a bike, you can cycle round, stop at every bar on the way and not worry about getting 'home'... win win!
As for the security factor, certainly at Le Mans this is a big consideration but so long as you lock your bikes up at all times, you should be ok. Most of the theives are opportunists rather than determined criminals (Le Mans anyway)
