My work means im away a lot, usually monday-fri and working nights. As im a freelancer it means ive got to arrange and pay for my own accommodation which is always a headache whether its hotels (they charge per night so there's always an extra cost as i need it per day) or a houseshare (cheaper than a hotel but a lot of hassle of finding one to begin with). This then brings me, once again, onto the idea of converting a van into a livable space.

I say livable when infact all it needs to be is sleepable. I work 12 hour shifts and then end up in a gym or wondering around a bit and usually only spend time in the hotel/houseshare to actually sleep. Showering and toilet use is either in work or the gym/leisure center so dont need washing or stting facilities in the van, although id look at having a sink.

Sorry for the long intro but you now kind of understand my needs van wise.

Id love something big like a Relay or Sprinter but i feel it would be a bit of overkill, although good overkill. However i may have issues with parking when im home as its a struggle to find a space big enough for my car. I then started looking at something smaller like Vitos, Scudos and Experts (all LWB) and find them really appealing but a bit worried about them being too small although a bed and some storage seems to fit in them pretty easily.

I guess im looking for people's input into this and hopefully from people who have been down the DIY route or have had experience of various size camper/motorhomes. Have you coped in something smaller? Have you had something larger and realised it was too big? etc

...as a side note please dont suggest VW camper/transporter as i dislike them with a passion.

Semi high, or full high roof lwb transit?

A million and one to choose from, cheap to run/service etc.

Bed at the back, with a seating area at the front. I'd suggest at least having a camping toilet in there as a backup.

I would seriously Recommend the Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar vans for this job. Have a check at what Tampon has done with his. There are plenty around, they will do 40mpg driven nicely, and the rears are lovely and square, ideal for space. A lwb version should suit your needs perfectly

Ive been looking at the Transits but seem too 'work man like' if that makes sense.

Yeah ive had a gander at Tampon's thread. The Vivaros, i think, are a lovely van. A guy in work has got a LWB one in black with the side bars etc, really looks the part.

Ive seen a LWB Citreon Relay advertised near by for £4500+vat on a 57 plate but with 137,000m. Im not too clued up about vans and their mileage but it seems like a bloody lot of miles!
