Continential v UK Caravans

Our current caravan is a continental one made by Dethlef. We are currently contemplating changing it for another new to us caravan.
My wife thinks we should find another continental one on the basis that the build quality is better even if they dont have the same features as a UK one.
Is she right?

Well as we'll be buying second hand the fact they are less desirable come resale time will help us on purchase. Just need to find them! Guess there's no point buying one abroad?But they are heavy and less desirable come resale time so swings and roundabouts.

Burstner owner here, our first van. Bought because I spent a lot of time on caravantalk prior to buying and was horrified to read ownership experiences regarding the build quality of British vans. Lots of reports of bits falling off new vans, water leaks etc. Decided I'd be buying German which narrowed down our buying options but immensely pleased with ours.

I think there is. I bought my German motorhome from Germany last year and it worked out exceptionally well.Most dealers speak English and are savvy with export requirements. Plus the whole process is a bit of an adventure and, for us, was highly enjoyable.

Thanks for that, for some reason your link doesnt work for me, but googling the site sorted that. German vans make the British ones look like gimcrack tat IMO - mobile gin palaces with plush, buttoned upholstery. Wife-swapper-tastic!
For a few years now they've had a Fendt Diamant something or other - fairly big, single axle. It's got aircon, underfloor heating, fancy lights everywhere, beautifully built thing. They've also got a brand spanking new Hobby motorhome and haven't used the caravan since - however my dad won't lend me the Fendt on the basis that "you'll have your mates in it, get drunk and vomit in it" -
I'm a 46 year old IT professional, my mates are similar aged professional types and I've never vomited through drink in my life. I just think he doesn't like me.
Their buying experience was excellent. They saw a similar model in the UK in a dealer for £££££££££££££££££££s, but some online searching found a Fendt dealer in Dortmund. They spoke to the chappie on the phone and then flew over on some budget airline (cost them something like six quid each). Caravan dealer picked them up from the airport, showed them the vans, options etc and he and his wife took my mum and dad to dinner that evening.
Anyway, they ordered the caravan which was then built to spec and went back to collect it a few months later. The saving over the UK dealer was considerable - something like 40% (this was a few years ago).
