Need Some Ideas - Normandy/ Britainy
Discussion
In our newly acquired motorhome we're looking to find somewhere around here to stay in August. Ideally we'd like a town close to the sea with some beaches and bars etc.
We'll be taking bikes so if it's a few miles to the beach/ town that will be ok. All we really want is a nice safe site and electric hookup. On site showers and toilets would be nice too and we'd feel incredibly spoilt if any of these places had a swimming pool included!
I've got good knowledge of the Alpes and Southern France but aside from a school trip about 15 years ago I have never been to this region.
Any help greatly appreciated!

We are thinking about going from the tunnel to Mont st Michel and then along to Perros guirec on the pink granite coast. Perros looks to be 400 miles from Calais. I think we may end up http://www.leranolien.fr/en/ here and then turn back. This year we have a new baby to take as well as our other child so we are not pushing too far. We will do a few stages with stops for crepes and cidre. I think we will alternate between campsite and aires like normal.
I have a rough guide to France Which I use for general ideas of towns and sights and there is a good tourism website for the coast area.
Enjoy the planning!

If you haven't been to Mont St Michel for a while it's getting very comercial around there now. There's a cracking Aire just outside where we stopped last year that was far cheaper than the official car park and had all the services there (unlike the official one where all you get is a space) - and hardly any further out to the mount to walk or bike.I have a rough guide to France Which I use for general ideas of towns and sights and there is a good tourism website for the coast area.

Camping Les Menhirs in Carnac is pretty good. Close to town, a field of menhirs and a couple of good beaches, one with a tidal island and a load of clams.
Camping du Letty is a spectacular spot on a tidal lagoon and near a pleasant town. (ETA Benodet)
Not been to either in August though, so they could both be heaving.

Have stayed here earlier this year,

Easy walk/cycle into Saint cast le Guildo, beautiful beach and marina side bars, there is a beach a minutes walk down some steps from the campsite, pool and bar on site.
View from our pitch,
Could have been on the front, but wanted a level pitch

Arromanches les Bains is lovely, got a cracking little municipal site 10 minute walk from the sandy beach, complete with the remains of WWII Mulberry harbour. Good restaurants, museum and more WWII history in the surrounding area than you could shake a rusty grenade at. My mate Adrian is the deputy mayor and owns this place http://www.normandybeach.co.uk/ he's always happy to have people drop in for a beer or a cuppa. Arromanches is a brilliant base for touring round Normandy.

For the uninitiated 'Mo's Tavern' is the Mary Celeste, the only pub (as opposed to proper French bars or cafe's) in the village. It's run by Happy Pete, who is a dead ringer for Mo Sizlak. If he was Irish pretending to be French. It's a great little place.
