Has anyone camped on the isle of Arran in August how many midges were present?

not that many, only a few hundred.... billion!!! dont leave a inch of skin if it is a cloudy day, okay in bright sunlight but 1st thing in the morning or in the evening they are vicious. best place for campling is seal shore at kildonan as the breeze keeps them away, brodick or lamlash and you will be food for them. go into the forests and they are sabre toothed midges. get avon skin so soft and take several gallons of it and marinade yourself, if you smoke then chainsmoking keeps them away

they are lovely really, it is only the female that bites and she is hormonal, be warned, kill one and a thousand will turn up for the funeral
