I'm considering getting a small camper to replace my Legacy when the time comes. I think it'll be a Bongo because I want AWD (will mostly be wild camping in UK dark spots) and an elevating roof so my other half can sleep up there while I'm messing around with a camera, but are there any alternatives around the same price point I can look at?

Thanks.

Oh I should add, I'll probably go for a full side conversion (like an ILV Lulworth, with a small porta-potty), and I'll want the option of putting a diesel heater under the body later for the winter nights/days.

There are other options mainly of an imported ilk but with those requirements the bongo sounds hard to beat.

Thanks, yeah for the money I don't think they can be beaten, I'm only looking for alternatives to widen my choice rather than having any aversion to them. I borrowed my brother's unconverted Bongo AFT for six months a long time ago and thought it was great.

I think my mind is made up but all suggestions are welcome. My plan is to get away at least one weekend a month, both with and without my other half, with my camera and a radio (I'm a licensed radio amateur) and spend a potentially long weekend in the middle of nowhere, so we need to be as self-sufficient as possible. That pretty much rules out petrol/LPG because of the eventual diesel space and water heater addition that will run off the main tank, and I want AWD because we'll almost always be wild camping.

What about a Mitsubishi Delica?

Maybe a Toyota Granvia if you want a bit more space than a Bongo?

I think the Delica is tin-top only isn't it? However, look at this bad boy smile

The Granvia is a good option, but at 20cm longer and 20cm wider it might be a bit too big.

Wasn't there a Vw t4 synchro?

I know there was a T25 one, rare pricey and complicated though I think.
