40k for a new camper.....
Discussion
Just a fleeting thought. I saw a brand new VW camper yesterday. It looked great in silver I think it was called a California.
When I come to replace my current car, I'll be looking to spend £40,000 or so.
Whet would that get me? And as it would be the main car, wife me dog but no kids, are they practical on a daily basis as a car replacement?

Or £300 notes if you do it differently http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Feckin Daily Wail, that's not a £30000 caravan, £20k in 2011.
O.p your budget bags a nearly new California with the dsg which are an excellent driving van with a quality conversion but as with many things you might find you end up with a camper that's too small that's a car that's too big.
Check out the Doubleback conversion from Danbury, it's on a T5 and is very different or if you want a toilet/shower too then try the Autosleeper Topaz.

There are not many deals on new californias but if you hunt around you might find something. A mate has just ordered a new and it was nearer to 50 i think. They do hold their money very well though. A quict look on autotrader revealed this within buget.

They are an obscene amount of money, aren't they?!
I'd rather spend £20k on a fking lovely car, £10k on a lovely caravan and save the other £10k
I'm probably in the same position as the OP ... I only have parking space for and more specifically the time and money to use/maintain one vehicle. A California would fulfil my camping needs (festivals and a few weekends away) but still be usable as a reasonably economical daily driver, without going 'full motorhome'. I'd rather spend £20k on a fking lovely car, £10k on a lovely caravan and save the other £10k
Couldn't face having a caravan having spent a childhood going everywhere at 50mph with a Sprite Major hanging off the back of the old man's Granada!
