...be able to do some interior work on a motorhome if required? By this I mean that if I were to buy one which wasnt exactly the right spec (and couldnt find exactly what I wanted) are there the equivalent of cabinet makers who could make adjustments?

I guess if they exist they would do caravans as well.

Anybody used these kind of services before?

Cheers smile

Yes there are. look for coachbuilders. I only know large companies that build stuff like F1 motorhomes but there must be smaller ones around. I'd be surprised if there weren't some adverts in caravan magazines & the like.

In your neck of the woods the Autosleeper service centre may do it but they wouldn't be cheap.
I'd find your local horsebox manufacturer, they tend to be bespoke so are used to that sort of work.
Bear in mind Motorhomes hold their value well but modified ones really don't, it scares the be jeez us out of us dealers no matter how well its been done.
Nu-Venture in Wigan used to do bespoke coach builts and Rs Motorhomes still do if the budget reaches.

I have heard of and seen features in magazines for http://www.careavan.org/index.html

They seem to do a lot of re-upholstery work and foam work for older vans with tired fixtures.

Thanks for this: seems like sage advice.

I was thinking in terms of if we get a MH with an overhead sleeping area. We wouldnt be able to use this as a bed as my wife wouldnt be able to get up there (she has MS) so I was thinking about a conversion to a storage area which could be 'put back' to its original use quite easiy if/when we sold.

That sounds sensible enough, If I was offered a van that had had that done in px it wouldn't scare me as long as it looked the part and came with all the parts to convert back again.
