Hi,

Buying some camping stuff and will need a cool box. The Beer Mountain guys all seem to recommend Igloo.

Are they the best out there? Any others I should consider? They are more expensive than I would have guessed.

Cheers

We've had a Coleman Maxcold from Costco for several years and performs admirably at Le Mans each year. Ice lasts all week in it. It is very big though.

Bought a Coleman one a few years ago for a music festival a few years ago.

I packed it on the Thursday morning, and the beer was still ice cold on the Sunday morning.

One tip with any brand, if you have the space in the cooler, freeze water in some plastic bottles rather than buying dedicated freezer packs as that works a lot better.

Any thought on these powered types?

I'm guessing it's just a fan rather than an actual refrigeration system???

Thought about the powered one, but my decision ended up being based on price vs. the risk of the powered box draining the car's battery.

Ive got a Coleman Xtreme 36qt. Keeps things cold for about 4 or 5 days and is big enough to get a crate plus food in. Was tempted to buy a new 28qt xtreme as its a touch big for the van but figured I could just store more beer!

Just realised when I got home tonight, it wasn't the Coleman I bought, it was the same one - you won't go wrong with that! good choice!!

Yep, bought the same one a couple of years ago. Great bit of kit, and that's the perfect size a reckon, still just about liftable when full! One tip, that might be obvious, make sure stuff is cold BEFORE it goes in!

Yep - have one of these too.
Well insulated, good capacity and reasonable cost.

As said, chill or freeze things before they go in. Also, freeze up some big blocks of ice and put those in too. 1.5 Ltr bottles (leave the tops off when you freeze), empty biscuit tins, plastic lunch boxes - that sort of size. Really helps to keep it cold in there.

Freezing cartons of fruit juice is another option for drinkable cooling blocks.
