Demountable Camper for Pickups
Discussion
Does anyone have them?
I see lots around in the US/Canada, but they are not so popular in the UK?
Thought with the increasing numbers of pickup trucks around they might have taken off
I'm looking at buying a pickup, and they seem to offer a good compromise between a camper van (allowing you to use the vehicle independently once you are set up on a site) and a tent (less faff to erect, solid walls, more waterproof etc).
I can see that they are less spacious than a camper, but are there any other downsides?

They're a compromise compared to a full trailer (caravan), but permit you to tow a boat or whatever else while still having sleeping accommodation. A friend of mine has a heavy duty Dodge Ram with a camper and he hauls his boat behind. Half tonne trucks carry relatively little weight in their bed, so the choice of camper is pretty limited. A 1 tonne dually rig with long bed and air suspension and you can have all the amenities you like.
Thanks for the replies
Realise that it will be a compromise in terms size of accommodation etc but if you already have a pickup it would save running another vehicle
I'd also be towing a boat at the same time
It also seems to enable you to use the vehicle more easily once you have parked up and demounted the accommodation unit.
I'd be looking at a 1 ton pickup so hopefully load capacity would not be a problem

Interesting did not know they were available in the EU, thanksMakes towing a boat impossible, but interesting that they are available
My neighbour builds them, they are gaining popularity here -

I had thought about a 5th wheel caravan before building our motorhome but realised we would require a towbar on occasion.
