Anyone care to recommend a site for me, her & 5-year old?

Shall be in a tent during May half-term and quite fancy the New Forest this time.

TIA

We stayed at Hollands Wood near Lyndhurst last year; the kids loved it!

We've used both Ashurst and Roundhill sites and both are good. I prefer Ashurst as it's a bit smaller than Roundhill.

Have a look on the camping in the forest site.

I wouldn't go back to Roundhill again, the facilities just aren't up to it. When we went, the site was nowhere near full yet the toilet/shower blocks were regularly out of action because of flooding/blockages/filthy. The washing facilities were poor too with large queues and hot water running out in no time.

The pitch where you like and not within five metres of someone else was good and there's plenty of space, but it's really let down by poorly maintained and wholly inadequate facilities. Plus there's no shop as such either - try getting a replacement calor gas bottle or a pint of milk. There must be better sites.

I haven't been for about 10 years, but last time I did we had a great stay at the Red Shoot. It's adjacent to The Red Shoot Inn, which was a great pub when we were there.

A flyer, eh?

Man up and tell us what search you put in for that to come up!!!

Seriously, I actually had a family holiday there in the early 90s.

As for the recommendations, thanks all but Obergruppenfuhrer booked somewhere unbeknownst to me... Considering her choice last year in the Peak District it'll be next to a major road with only 1 toilet...

We stayed there with two other families, its really rather nice. Worth taking bikes so you can cycle to the pub.

Hollands Wood is great, and a friend uses Red Shoot often and always recommends it.

Where did SWMBO book out of interest?

Stayed at Verwood for a couple of nights last summer and that was nice, good modern playground for the kids.

We have stayed several times at Shorefields Lytton Lawn site, just off the New Forest at Lyndhurst. Has the advantage of being able to use the leisure facilities of their mobile home site down the road, which is great for a little one.

Another vote for Hollands Wood here. Try to get a spot on the side away from the road.

Red Shoot is a very nice and clean camp site with full facilities and even a very nice country pub with live music.. Been there for the easter weekend

Went to stay at Sandy Balls last month and thought it was pretty decent. Its quite a big site but nicely managed with plenty of facilities for children on-site. Shower / toilet blocks were clean and tidy.

Would stay there again.

Also stupidly expensive! Over twice the price of the C&CC site we are staying in for the same period.

Admittedly, a lot more facilities.

I take our grandchildren (3 x 6 yo) here every year. Absolutely great for kids. Highly recommended.
