Advice for Australian visitors - 3-week UK motorhome tour
Discussion
We have friends visiting from Australia in September. They are spending the first few days in London, then are doing a 3-week tour of the UK, before spending the final week or so with (or near to) us in Wiltshire.
The family (of four) includes two kids aged under 10.
So - hopefully some useful advice from the PH ranks please!
I can help with planning their itinerary, so no big issues there. I have suggested that they try to stay in one place for 2-3 nights, then move on to the next place for 2-3 nights, etc. otherwise it will seem like they are always on the road and the kids will soon get pissed off.
However, on that basis, wherever they park up the motorhome on each occasion ideally needs to be near to good public transport links, therefore recommendations for good sites that are suitable for motorhomes would be very useful - or maybe a link to a website or other forum (ahem!) that can offer such info. For example, if they go to Edinburgh or York (two places I'm suggesting they visit), are there any good sites near to each city that will enable them to get the train or bus into the city?
Also, on the basis that they've hired an 8-berth motorhome (so it sounds like a big 'un!), is there any information available that would help with places or routes to avoid (apart from common sense...)?
Any other general advice from the experienced motorhome owners / users please?
Cheers

If theyre going to York then Rowntree Park Caravan club site is superb, its open to non members and a short walk into the city centre, you need to book up now though as its very popular.
Most but not all sites are at least near a bus route.
8 Berths are almost unknown bar maybe a Mclouis Tandy if its one of them their circa 23ft so big but manageable.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revi... is right in the middle of Bristol & Bath is a 12 minute train ride away...
I was in York last week and used the park and ride (north side of the city) and there was special parking for motor homes, not overnight but might be worth checking out for the places you want to visit, if you are in the York area its worth a trip to Whitby , we have friends who come over from Canada and they love it, with its links to Captain Cook they should find it interesting .

The location of Towntree park is excellent, however, access for a very large motor home might be an issue, i'm pretty sure you have to go under a low(ish) bridge to get there. I'd call them for advise before booking. Most but not all sites are at least near a bus route.
