Recently I've been thinking leaving my marital home and buying a motorhome to live in while looking for work.
Before anyone starts there's nothing wrong with my marriage, it's just that I'm unable to find work in this hell hole where I currently live.

I know I could find work else where no problem, the only thing is finding somewhere to live, as I already have a house I don't want to rent anywhere else, so I thought or a motorhome as it's mobile I could travel where the work is also come home for a bit of R&R.

I'm sort of semi-retired but going stircrazy pottering about the house.

So to anyone who knows, what are the pitfalls in doing this? I would feel quite happy in my little abode and the beauty of it I could come and go as I wished.
Any thoughts?

My grandfather tried this and failed owing to heat - they are no where near as well insulated as a house and become very cold over winter.

He lived in South Africa and jacked it in as Autumn came in and got a house, thats with their temperatures which are a darn sight better than ours.

Ah! I didn't think of that one, I'll investigate further into heating.

Lived in a Swift Kontiki 640/6 full time for four years, winter no problem with blown air on a low setting. Insulation shouldn't be a problem with anything built in the last 20 years, but there are recognised grades of winterisation so just ask the dealer/manufacturer.

For year round use id go German or premium european at leat and for ultimate draft freeness an A-Class,depending on budget an old Hymer or Laika will offer a lot of solid, warm van for the cash.
Much that Im pro Motorhome, for full timing unless your moving sites on a weekly basis then Id get a caravan instead (German again as theyre warmer and unloved in the uk so cheaper too) and benefit from having the car to get around in and the budget will stretch much further, £5000 = ratty 1980s Motorhome or mid 00s decent caravan £20000 = ealry 00s Motorhome or new luxury caravan.

As ol NagsHead said above, Id look more into a Caravan, but if its purely for the ease of pitching up, and then leaving a camper could be ideal.

German all the way for the insulation, home brew vans won't be warm enough (thinking conversions rather than main brands). Id look at Coachbuilt too. Just that bit nicer. How much are you looking at spending on your mobile home?

Well I was thinking to chop my golf and caddy plus a couple of grand or so,
£10k as I'd like somewhere nice to come home to after work.
The problem with a caravan is you need something to pull it, which then that's more outlay, also parking it somewhere ,where it won't be vandalised.

You won't get anything nice for 10k. Much better off with a caravan for the budget.
