Going camping for the first time with a 1 year old who with a bit of luck will just about be toddling around by then. Any advice or tips?

Do you have a travel cot? Failing that an insulated mat under their airbed assuming you are in a tent.

I first took my toddler at 14 months and he loved it.

If you can stretch to it buy a readybed, I brought mine from argos

I also brought him is own peppa pig torch which he loves to play with.

My suggestions would be a few bigger/outdoor toys and also a few indoor ones in case the weather turns. Also a waterproof picnic blanket is always a winner.

My son doesn’t really play with his toys when we are away I think he enjoys the freedom of being able to wander round a bit more and pickup sticks and daisy’s etc.

Tent camping, travel cot that she's used to sleeping in. Good shout on the outdoor toys.

Try to get an early night - at this time of the year with long daylight hours and no blackout curtains in your tent, expect to be woken at 0500!

Ready beds are great once they are out the cot, which won't be long. However do put an insulation mat under it.

Most kids love camping. And will make friends with the other kids very quickly. Your is a bit young this year but in a couple of years you'll arrive on site and your kid will be playing with the other kids before you have opened the car door!

First took our proper camping when they were fairly mobile (20 months?) and the biggest issue we had was setting boundaries for them in the field - so we were constantly having to get up and retrieve them. Later on in the same summer we got a few cheap windbreaks and used them to make an enclosure and filled it with toys; much easier to relax smile

Ours will be 14 months in July and we're going down to Brittany and the Loire.

He already wakes at 5.30 so not worried about that. He's not toddling yet, but will probably be there or thereabouts next month.
We've got the travel cot and toys sorted - just worried about the sun and spending too much time in the car. On previous holidays we've moved campsites every few days, but this time it will just be 2 sites in 2 weeks.
If it all starts going wrong we can just bail out and come home.

Take lots of layers (long sleeved vests) and a "growbag" with sleeves, and I'd be tempted to take an electric hook up and oil filled rad just in case. A small paddling pool is great for bath time, some sites only have showers. Kids meals can be a bit dull in France if you're eating out (can't remember what a one year old might eat) we found the meals in pouches invaluable.

There was a side story to it that the site advertise as being family friendly and quiet and didn't neglected to mention a nightclub 200 yards down the road hidden among trees so up until 10pm I had no idea it was there

Electric radiator ?

Wouldn't bother. Decent sleeping bag and a blanket has been fine. If we have gone later in the season (say last week of August) it can be colder in the night, but with three of them in there it gets quite cosy anyway.

How are you feeding them ? do you need to take a high chair ? Also I have always found bucket, spade and other digging shapes toys etc useful, same with bubble mixture.

Bastids... What did the kids think of it - they were probably intrigued.?
Slept right through it. I had an ipod on at full volume and it still couldn't drown out the bass yet the kids slept soundly. I think it is easier to sleep when you aren't furious
