Camping Solitaire Du Lac Annecy
Discussion
Just booked in here ( http://www.campinglesolitaire.com/en/home.html ) for a few days in June as part of our two week trip to France. Looks like a lovely spot, next to the lake, near a beach, you can hire bikes to ride along the lakeside cycle path into Annecy, or catch the ferry from the nearby jetty to various spots.
A great spot for relaxation and peace, so I thought, but I'm just doing an image serch on Google for some more photos of the place, and it turns out I've only booked where the poor British family who got shot in their car were staying! The first few photos are mainly of police sealing off their caravan as a crime scene, instead of the expected shots of caravans, tents and happy campers!
It's funny, I hadn't put two and two together, and obviously, there were no mentions on the campsite website or Tripadvisor, nor were there any Google search items mentioning this. Although I was aware the actual shooting took place up the road in the woods near Annecy, I had not put any thought into where the were staying, possibly because there are so many campsites in the area.
I'm not too worried about a return of a Jason Bourne type assassin as it does seem like this was a result of something the father was up to, but it was a surprise I'd picked an idyllic spot which has a very recent, somewhat dark connection.

Agree - we wound up here about five years ago after camping near St Tropez, the 5C or so difference from the south coast and the cool, light blue water of the lake and the scenery was blissful. We're doing a similar trip but with 2 young kids this time.
The last time I passed this way was on the way to Les Arcs, stuck in a traffic jam all the way up the valley from the airport. On a very grey cold afternoon, the lake didn't look so pretty!

Were did you camp near St Topez, I'm currently looking for a site along the Cote and many are sky high or fully booked. Can you recommend something decent???
Ha - we booked one of the Riviera Village Polynesian Villas (i.e. a mobile home with coconut thatch cladding) in Praries De La Mer - Port Grimaud. As it's June it's a lot cheaper than July/August but as you notice still pricey. But we get pretty much beachfront access, ferry across to St Tropez and all the facilities for the kids. They have normal camping and caravan pitches for a lot less, but we booked way back in November to secure a booking, so not sure if they have much availability now. Were did you camp near St Topez, I'm currently looking for a site along the Cote and many are sky high or fully booked. We decided to go in a mobile home after realising we practically needed a trailer and roofbox for all our tent, gear, travel cots, buggies etc, so decided to have it ready for us when we get there. More expensive, sure, but saves a lot on hassle.
There is a campsite next door (Camping de la Plage) which may have spaces - we turned up and camped there about 5 years ago and got a tent pitch two rows from the beach - this was in June again so not so busy.
We were also looking at camping or renting a mobile home behind Pampelonne beach the other side fo St Tropez (where all the beach clubs are for the rich and beautiful - but a great beach for even the poor and ugly like us), which are worth a look too. There are a couple of German/Dutch run places that don't immediately show up on Tripadvisor/Google that would be worth a look.
