We drove down to Vieste, Puglia last year and had a marvellous holiday camping a few km out of the town in a site right on the beach. But, it was 34 euros a night (it was high season), and we're wondering if there's a cheaper way to camp - small farm/agriturismo sites for instance? Any advice very welcome, as we're looking to do it again, hopefully pretty soon (probably leaving early June.

I've not done a huge amount of campsiting in Italy but I do know it is comparatively very expensive.

If you want cheap and good campsites, go to Germany. Food and drink (beer) is cheap too, campsites are always clean.

Are you with children? Tent/caravan/motorhome?

Try this site, although I haven't looked through many of the locations so not sure if all, some or any offer camping.
