I'm considering moving the annual family camping trip from Cornwall to the South of France this year in the hope that the weather may be a little kinder that way, plus we have never been before and I was hoping we could start to venchure that way on a yearly basis.

Ideally I'm looking for some nice for the kids ranging from 2-13 so there needs to be a pool, being near the coast would be a bonus too.

Hi

We have been camping in Vendee quite a few times (although before we had kids). It is not as far to drive, near the coast and the weather when we have been there has always been good.

Towns we have stayed in and enjoyed include St Jeans de Monts, La Tranche sur Mer and Les Sables d'Olonne. La Rochelle, Ile de Re and Ile de Oleron are also good. The more child focussed campsites in the region do look good.

We found that anywhere south of the Loire seems to get better weather - everytime we have stayed in Brittany/ Normandy the weather has been distinctly average.... (or very British)

Doesn't really answer your question, but I know what travelling long distances with a two/ three year old is like!

You might want to consider in land Egleton/Ussel area our 5 kids 8 to 16 love the area loads of fresh water lakes
to swim in all properly monitored by the local communities complete with restaurants and bars .Lakes sizes vary from 15 to 400 hectares ,the larger ones cater for full water sports activities. We have friends who live in Gimel les Cascades so we stay in an appartment in their gite complex ,but lot of good quality campsites in that area .

We had in the past taken our RV as far down as Monaco but our kids seem to enjoy this middle part of the country
as the climate is more predictable, higher and cooler at night .
Hope this helps

About 1km from beach , free parking on beach front with a great beach , great resturants on pontoons over the river
http://www.campingleneptune.com/english/

Camp site has good shower blocks , nice pool with kiddies paddling area , when we were there last year there was free wifi ,
also entertainments for youngsters

16a power to pitches

Not far from Camargue , flamingos horses etc ,

I have been there 3 times and am very picky about where I go

I don't think that'd be on my agenda this year, but it certainly looks nice - what time of year do you go/how busy is it?

Another vote for the Vendee. We stay between St. Jeans de Monts and St. Gilles Croix de Vie.

Having been to Canada last year we're considering something different this year, might gamble or Cornwall if we can find luxury apartments with a pool.

We usually go mid July , as the season progresses booking becomes more important , but even when busy the site is roomy enough so as not to feel hemmed in

Not on the coast, but a riverside location with much to see and do in the area , caves , canoes village markets , and more

If you need to brush up on your French , then this the place owner speaks not a word of English , but then why should he !!
and nearer Calais / channel ports etc
Oh Yes and for a petrol head

Dordogne around Bergerac/Eymet or Sarlat/Castelnaud.Loads to do,weather more reliable than Vendee. If you want information overload have a look at www.ukcampsites.co.uk and post in the camping abroad forum, also has a campsite review section for all of UK and France.

I stopped to see some friends last year who were at one of the les castels groups campsites,
It was quite expensive, but very family and child orientated.
They have sites all over France.

We're going to Port Grimaud this year - in one of the Polynesian Mobile homes in the Praries De la Mer campsite on the sea front. I've been there several times over 25 years and this year I'm taking my own young kids. We're going in June so hopefully not as busy as late july/ August, but it's a great place to visit. No pool, but you have the beach.

We've used a few of them and found them good, although Saint Avit Loisirs in the Dordogne was a bit lower rent than others we've used. The Indigo chain seem good too (based on one low season visit).

I know quite a few sites all over France so if you can narrow down where you're thinking of going, OP, that'd help.

Domaine Duravel
Duravel, Lot, Midi-Pyrénées

Tel: +33 (0)5 65 24 65 06
Fax: +33 (0)5 65 24 64 96
Open: 4 May - 21 September

This is a great place if you have children of any age.

I've been a couple of times when I lived in France and can highly recommend it. It's Dutch run so no language issues if your French isn't too good.

Kudos

Camp du pylon nr Biot which is just outside Nice. Good spot, pool etc and only a 5 min walk to the beach. Train station beside it, which goes to Nice, Monaco etc
