Hi All

Well, in a week or two, we should have our brand new (to us!) caravan. It's old & tatty but it's been donated to us by friends smilewoohoo So is ideal to make sure we all enjoy it.

Just wondering on everyone's experiences of the two clubs? Which would you prefer?

(if it makes any odds when considering sites, we're both in our 40's with a 3 year old)

Thanks - Dunc

We are in the caravan and camping club, but only because it came free with our RAC membership.

My parents are in the caravan club, I think the main differences are the sites which are accessible to members an the caravan club have a scheme with Brittany Ferries that saves you £150ish off a crossing.

Personally I've always preferred CC sites and facilities to those of the C&SC. Used to be a member of both when I had a van, but we always tended to book with the CC as the standards were (IMO) higher.

That said, we have friends who think the exact opposite hehe

Haha, didnt have Garlick down as a Caravan Club Colonel, all caravans to be exactly level at all times,no noise after 8pm, grass to be trimmed to 4.35" at all times, all dogs to be English brreds only and a Cravat to be worn at all times!

Friends of ours have recently left the Caravan Club and joined the Camping and Caravan Club. The latter is of course known as the Friendly Club :-)

Personally I think you pay your monies and makes your choice although an old van might fir in better on a C and CC site!

Many fine holidays had through Camping & Caravan Club both in a motorhome and under canvas, would recommend, but not tried the other, but Camping & Caravan Club have some lovely sites away from the hoi polloi...

Caravan Club has a reputation for being patronized by ageing couples with pristine caravans that turn their noses up and any other leisure vehicle - even a £50k camper...

The caravan club won't let you on a lot of thier sites unless you are a member, so you can't even try before you buy, which put me off.
I joined the C&CC, which has some good sites but I don't think the tag line 'The friendly club' would stand up to scrutiny from trades descriptions.

Must admit my assumption is that the Friendly Club is designed to get upthe nose of another Club and nothing else. Certainly the Warden at Pevensey last year wasn't particularly friendly. However Head Office advised us that one of the toilet blocks was indeed closed on a day it shouldnt have been and that the person concerned would be under going additional training.

The reality is I suspect that for both clubs as a user of their facilities you are very dependent on the quality of those facilities and the quality of the staff on site and I suspect they both have some that are better than others.

All the stuff you mention about the CC sounds perfect to me. Keep the noise down chaps and ensure your vehicle is parked perfectly in line with your 'van.

Just the way I like it.

We have been in both but now are just in the CC. The standards are better in general on the CC sites but they can come across as being snooty. As with all things in life there are good and bad in both clubs but I have yet to have any issues with people looking down at me. I have a self built motorhome which did not cost £50k
