Quick towing question....
Discussion
Towing figures are a mine field but if you look on your towcar and find the weights plate it should have figures for its max laden weight, this includes fuel luggage passengers etc. A higher figure for its total train weight. this is the figure for its trailer tow capacity. But any weight on the car towbar has to be included in the 1st figure.
There are usually 2 more figures for max axle weights. front / rear.
This is all irrelevant i'm afraid as you cant tow any braked trailer without the extra trailer test. Your own fault for being young
Test is a pita but has to be done.. Usually a days training and half day for test, about £450 iirc

Towing laws.
The OP can tow what he likes as long as he doesn't exceed the towing limit of his vehicle AND 3500kg train weight.
Makes sense now.. We had to put both sons through the test to be able to tow either of our trailers but both have a gross weight of 3000kg which of course when a 4wd pickup is added pushes the total well over the 3500kg limit. The OP can tow what he likes as long as he doesn't exceed the towing limit of his vehicle AND 3500kg train weight.
I had misunderstood the regs in thinking that it was for any braked (750kg+) trailer.
And infact the op's post makes more sense now aswell.
