Build your own camping trailer?
Discussion
So - OberGruppenfuhrer has been barking on about family camping holidays. My response was that - having sold the motorbike as it wasn't family friendly - I would be up for it providing I could have something interesting to go camping in.....
So, next task (having got a towbar) is finding a suitable camping trailer. Doesn't need to be big, but must be lockable.
Everything I find is either £££££, or a square box on wheels. Why is there no style in these things?
During my search I came across this - http://nomad.eurekaboy.com/mctrailer.htm......
Anyone know the legalities of such a DIY build in the UK?
Anyone done one?
Can I spray it orange?!

Fixed the link for you.
Would that be big enough though?

Can't see why it wouldn't be legal as long as you followed all the relevant rules on lighting, wheel covers etc.Anyone know the legalities of such a DIY build in the UK?

Maybe not that exact roofbox, but I've certainly seen massive roofboxes that are remarkably cheap secondhand, waterproof and lockable.
Doesn't need to be very big, mind. I'm just thinking of tent + equipment. Clothes (clean pair of pants for me, 2 x suitcases for OberGruppenfuhrer & Captain Smalltrousers)can go in Tango1 as there's plenty boot space in one of these - just would be nice not to have stuff piled all around us to/from/during!

If you really want to go traditional, have a look at the Mirror Trailer Tent.
The Daily Mirror wanted to open up leisure time to the masses in the late '60s/early '70s and had a program for cheap, homemade plywood trailer tents. The Mirror managed this very successfully with their sailing dinghy, thousands were home built. Barry Bucknell, the designer and plywood pioneer, and my Dad developed the homebuilt ply trailer on a metal frame.
May be worth looking into.

Not really after "traditional" per se, just something a little more stylish/aerodynamic than the standard box but without the ££££ pricetag that comes with ready-built affairs...The Daily Mirror wanted to open up leisure time to the masses in the late '60s/early '70s and had a program for cheap, homemade plywood trailer tents. I know a man who has a daughter who has a baby. If she told her father she had had to push her pram onto the road because some ignorant selfish idiot had parked on the pavement he would be round there in the dead of night and seriously vandalise the offending vehicle.
So I take it that he would be vandalising whole streets of cars in Bristol.... It wouldn't take long for him to get his comuppance if he tried that.Because on Victorian streets that are too narrow for 2 lots of parked cars and access for a lorry to drive down the middle, everyone parks on the pavement.
It's not right (I have a young daughter in a buggy) but that is the way life is.
I take it he also goes and vandalises hedges that intrude on the pavement?
Anyway - this is waaaay off topic. Sorry OP.
