what do you mean how?

portable dishes are available, use with your skybox from home if you need to use a viewing card, if not the FTV is available.

Apparently tricky to align tho if you want to spend the money fully automated systems are available that are motorised and self align etc.

As we have a box in our bedroom which doesn't really get used, would I be able to connect that up to a satellite dish in the caravan with my viewing card and then watch sky like at home?

Sorry it probably sounds stupid but I have no idea!

I don't see why not.

You can buy cheap signal finders that plug into the LNB (thing on the end of the dish) and you then wiggle it about until you have a signal. As long as the dish has a stable base and it's not blowing a gale it should works exactly like one attached to the side of your house.

You can buy the kit from Maplin for about £80, and from Lidl/Aldi periodically for a good bit less.

My mate has one in his caravan, it works perfect, you can align the dish without a signal meter so long as you can see another dish and point it in the right direction, or use compass.

you cant use a sky card in two different boxes im afraid, well at least not swap between them. so as long as you take the same box which the card is associated to then i think you'll be fine

Because it might need a phone line. However, it doesn't. All you need is a dual socket LNB on your dish and a gizmo to help you point it at the right satellite, plus power and a TV. Job done. smile

Isn't the Internet wonderful? All that information for free.

We use Sky in our van all the time. Bought a tripod, dish and cables for about £40 all in. If you want to use Sky + or even HD then you need a dual LNB - but you will probably find quad LNB's cheaper for some reason. Also worth investing in a cheap satellite finder, also from ebay.

We use ours everywhere, takes about ten minutes to set up and works all over Europe. We just take the Sky box from the bedroom. The box doesn't know where it is, so even at Le Mans, we get Westcountry TV!

Is a MK4 sky dish okay for the job or is that just for a house?

Most of the ones on ebay will be quads, so you just use two and leave two spare. It's basically because the sky box needs two feeds, so you can watch one channel and record another. The point I was making was that it needs to be dual (two) )at least, so a quad will be just fine too. I've realised my post wasn't clear on that.

Anyway, stick 'quad lnb' into ebay and there's loads to choose from. smile
