Recently returned to caravanning after a fifteen year break and thoroughly enjoying it. Bought a s/h Compass Liberte in early Sept and been away for four weekends so far and exploring parts of the nearby counbtry we've never been to befopre. i guess that's what it's all about.

At the moment I'm doing websearches for campsites but think I ought to join one of the clubs to get access to their sites and of course their discounted site fees and books.

So the question is, which one's best, Caravan Club or Camping and Caravanning Club? Or are they much of a muchness. And if you're in one, does the other one ban youi from their sites.

Must admit it seems a bit, what's best VHS or Betamax, why don't they just merge?

Well the Camping and Caravanning Club is of course marketed as "The Friendly Club", mind you no one seems to have told the site manager at Normans Bay that.

I have no idea whether The Caravan Club is "better" than the Camping and Caravanning Club. I believe a fundemental difference is that the Caravan Club does not allow tents, and I think they have more sites that are members only, whereas for most (if not all) C and C sites non-embers are welcome.

No one seems to have told most of the site managers on the sites I've been on with the C&CC. There seems to be a look of total distain once they see you have a small child.

We're going to try the Caravan club next year to see how we get on.

Not had that problem with the C&CC, one reason for going to them is the play areas etc.

Neighbours of ours were in CC but have changed to C&CC because they prefer the sites (except Normans Bay as they had issues there too).

We're members of the c&cc. It pays for itself by giving us ferry discounts travelling to France.

I wrote to the C & CC about the manager of Normans Bay and his actions in closing shower blocks. They are apparently advising him of the correct approach!

We are in the c & CC but find their 'proper' sites expensive, to such an extent last time we went to watergate in Cornwall it was cheaper on the commercial site next door with a clubhouse. If there are two and your retired its spot on.
Both do weekend and holiday meets but no tents for cc.
The cc does have the CL club listed sites which are great, 5ish max vans and the sites are tucked away, often with no more than water and somewhere to empty the toilet. Very cheap too.

Been member of the CC for about 10 years. Sites are always clean and they are a safe environment for the kids.
It's not expensive to join and you also have access to the CL sites.

The C&CC also has CL sites. Sometimes adjacent to the CC ones!

I work for the Caravan Club so if you would like any magazine sent over or questions answered I could get that sorted for you.
