I got home on Friday morning late after a very bad 12 hour night shift.

Wife needed the car immediately I got home. I stood on the doorstep to wave her off when I noticed the awning rail had a bloody great big kink in it,

I had a closer look and it was obvious someone had used a screwdriver to pull the awning rail away from the body, there was the scar of a flat blade in the aluminium and a big bend in the rail causing a big gap. It was not there yesterday.

The wife reckons she heard something last night and got up, but could not see anything.

Do you reckon some idiot was trying to steal my awning rail? I have a 1990 Swift Corvette Diamond, not exactly sought after, I would have thought, but the damage is definitely deliberate. I should know because I spent the year before last rebuilding it due to damp and had the whole offside skin off to replace the timber frame!

I repaired the damage immediately, luckily the bit they pulled on did not have a screw under it. It was simply a case of putting some ribbon mastic in the gap and using a rubber mallet to straighten the awning rail back to flush with the body. The only damage visible is a flathead screwdriver mark in the roof side of the awning rail edge. I used my damp detector in the back cupboard to check it was dry, and will have to keep an eye on it for a while to make sure no water gets in the repair.

If they visit again, it will be their head leaking, not my 'van!

How would anyone be able to remove an awning by prying it with a screwdriver? Would it pop off if they got a jemmy in there?
Sounds odd?

Most odd. It would have to be a deranged metal thief. Not a hope in hell of it popping off. My neighbour asked if it could be the gales we've been having hehe
I think it is probably some random junkie with a screwdriver, but I have no idea how one could have got to my garden. Maybe I have a crazed PH neighbour who hates caravans? scratchchin

I'd be surprised if it was a metal thief, an awning rail would be be worth less than £10 in scrap value.
