Anyone run a 1.9 TD in their Ducato ?

Fiat UK and their Dealer network have Very less than helpfull, it really is shocking. Fiat UK must be unique in not having a UK technical dept .

The 1.9 Engine in my van lacks power and torque and drinks fuel like you wouldnt beleive . Unless the Turbo is really spinning it is as flat as a pancake.
In France 2 years ago it really struggled on hills. Wondering if there is A Known problem or upgrade for this 1.9 engine ?

Been thinking if I can re power it with one of the later Fiat engines. I beleive either the 2.8 which seems to have been fitted to Ducatos from aprox 1999, or the Newer Multi Jet engine, But I don't have a clue whether my gearbox is compatible or what else would be involved.

Any info much appreciated.

The old 1.9 is no speed machine, particularly dragging a motorhome body around with it but believe it or not the 2.0jtd that replaced it was actually less powerfull.

If you can do it the contemporary 2.5 turbo or slightly later 2.8idtd would give you more pull, I think the later common rail 2.3 or 2.8jtd would be difficult with all the elctrical trickery to swap with yours but they are both cracking lumps.

Hi Nagshead, thanks for your reply . Yes, I am thinking of the 2.8 lump, circa 99 on I beleive. Any idea if it's a straight swap ? Or are the Engine mounts, X member, Radiator etc etc all different ?

The 2.8 idtd was quite short lived so 99-01 ish as the 2.8 jtd replaced it.

Will ask the garage we use at work as they r motorhome specialists so should have an idea on viability.

Would guess finding a low milage 11 year old commercial engine wont b easy tho.

I would hazard a guess that quite a few PSA diesels would be a simple enough fit. The 2.0Hdi or 2.2Hdi might be an option or a 2.0 multijet (essentially the same as the 2.0Hdi) should be easy enough to source and probably a direct fit to your gearbox.
