Any recommendations to campsites for tents on the island, not too bothered on amenities/entertainment as long as there are toilets and wash facilities the wife will be happy.? I'm thinking of having a weekend break in september.

http://www.grangefarmholidays.com/ Try this site, just come back from there, lovely spot, nice people, can be a little windy as it is right on the coast but the views/ walks/ and the surrounding area are great, the rural part of the IOW.

Ahah..!! Good timing. I'm just helping to arrange a large family group of campers to the IoW for next Summer. Nice one.

I live on the island (Ryde). We usually go to Grange farm (as mentioned above) Usually nice and quiet, lovely views across towards the Needles, pretty remote, on the Military Road (best driving road on the island - Clarkson and Damon Hill test drove some Ferrari and Aston along this road!).

Brighstone is a short walk away and has a pretty good little boozer as well.

So sounds ideal for your needs, TBH though I haven't really tested other campsites here, as this one has suited my needs perfectly.

We just came back from here:

Very nice site, nice big dog walking field. Can book your ferry for you too.

Oh, and push the (empty) coin tray in on the washing machine and it'll work for free...;)

Just got back from a couple of weeks here:

http://www.appuldurcombegardens.co.uk/

It's a tad pricy but the facilities are spotless, and it has the bonus of a heated outdoor pool.

Ask for a pitch in the meadow though.

Avoid the weekend of the 7th - 9th September, as the ferries will be a nightmare because it is the weekend of the Bestival. Getting a ferry will be difficult and there will be guaranteed delays.....

15th and 16th there is a fairly extensive classic car rally in Ryde and Newport which can be worth a visit if its your sort of thing. Usually some special metal turns up and all in aid of charity....

Have been to the carshow for the last three years with a group of fellow TVR owners, giving it a miss this year but my daughter has said she'd like to go there anyway. So depending on the forecast, we might bimble over.
